Ruffined K9 TRAINING PHILOSOPHY:
Tracy McLean of Ruffined K9 is dedicated to bringing only the most up to date, proven, positive methods of training. I aim to teach dogs desirable behaviours using SCIENCE-proven, and reward based methods. These proven methods work HUMANELY, without fear or force, with ANY type of dog whether they are; big dogs, small dogs, puppies or seniors, fearful and or reactive dogs. Every dog has the right to learn in a fun environment without the use of force, fear, punishment or intimidation.
Tracy is a CPDT-KA certified dog trainer and happy to offer private dog training and a variety of group lessons for your canine. She has spent many hours volunteering and training to become PACE certified (positive approach canine handler and instructor) at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society, completing 300 plus professional hours, teaching classes and working with many different dogs.
CCPDT certified trainers are tested against rigorous standards for knowledge and skills in science-based dog training.
No force or fear is used in her training methods.

Join in for an action packed fun playtime for your puppy. During this developmental stage in your pups life it is very important to have safe socializing time with the similar aged puppies. They will learn how to play nicely, learn that other dogs are friends and will learn how to inhibit their bite by having a soft mouth. Play sessions are monitored by certified trainers to ensure that the interactions are pleasant and will encourage your puppies confidence to grow. Studies show that puppies who miss out on this important socialization period are at a higher risk of developing fear and or reactivity issues later in life. This play and socialization time offers your pup time to learn these important life skills while having loads of fun!

This fun class will cover the A to Z’s of puppy training. Your puppy will graduate with a basis of solid foundation skills, including: name attention, sit, down, loose leash walking, and recall. They will learn valuable life skills and build confidence throughout the durations of the class. The classes have supervised play sessions so your puppy can have safe, social interactions with the other puppies. Handouts and instruction for preventative measures to be implemented during this critical developmental stage are delivered. Socializing and introducing your puppy to different things is one of the most important activities you can do with them. The polite pups class will offer exposure to different sounds, items, and experiences in a safe, fun and controlled manner so your puppy can have positive experiences that will encourage growth in their confidence. Handouts and instruction for various puppy related issues such as housetraining, mouthing, crate training, destructive chewing, proper dog toys, and nutrition are some of the topics covered.

This class offers participants the skills to build a positive relationship with their canine. Using training methods of positive reinforcement such as praise, treats, toys and fun help to strengthen the bond between you and your canine. All the foundation training cues are taught, as well as loose leash walking, recall, leave it, mat, and relax. Of course a few tricks and games will be included to add to the fun! Our focus during the sessions is for your canine to learn valuable life skills, build confidence and learn the skills to be a courteous member of your family and the community.
ROWDY ROVER REHABILITATION

This class is suitable for the canine who has struggles while walking on leash. They may display behaviours such as lunging, growling or barking at other dogs or people while on leashed walks. This program of rehabilitation uses force free, proven methods for learning and practising skills, activities and exercises in a supervised environment. Both you and your canine will gain the necessary skills to keep calm and controlled in the presence of another dog. Class sizes is limited to a small number of pre-screened dogs to ensure safety and a positive outcome. Those interested in this class should contact Ruffined K9 for the class schedule.
Tricks for Treats

This class will provide you and your canine with instruction on a number of tricks and games. This is a four week, fun, instructional class that will give you numerous options to keep your dog both physically and mentally engaged. Tricks, scent work, brain games, puzzles, and other easy canine enrichment will be sampled thoughout the class.

This is the perfect private session for the new puppy owner. This session will cover all the “must” know basics for the new puppy home. All the essentials of preparing your home to make it a safe environment, how to make the puppy's transition to your home successful, and what to expect in the first days upon your puppy’s arrival. Important topics such as crate training, housetraining, mouthing, destructive chewing, nutrition, and proper toys are covered. If children are in the home, a plan for introducing your children and your new puppy will be discussed. If your home has existing pets, a plan of how to successfully introduce a new puppy will be included. A plan for properly socializing your pup will be put in place to ensure that all the essential social and life skills can be implemented during this very important early developmental stage.
POLITE PUPPER BOOTCAMP

The polite pupper boot camp is perfect for the busy individual or family who can not commit to the fixed schedule of a group class. This bootcamp covers the same topics and skills as the puppy group class but in a more condensed format with one on one attention from the trainer. It is best if lessons can be completed within a 4 week time frame to keep your puppy engaged and learning, but with the private lessons you can customize the time of the lessons to work with your schedule. It is strongly recommended that a puppy socialization and play group is done in conjunction with the polite pupper bootcamp to ensure that your puppy has the opportunity to learn that other dogs are friends and not something to be fearful or reactive to. Your trainer will ensure that you have access to plenty of different supervised play sessions so you can find times that work with your schedule.
COURTEOUS CANINE BOOTCAMP

The courteous canine boot camp is perfect for the busy individual or family who can not commit to the fixed schedule of a group class. This bootcamp covers the same topics and skills as in the courteous canine group class but in a more compact format with the trainer's attention being only on you and your dog. It is best if lessons can be completed within a 4 week time frame to keep your canine engaged and learning, but with the private lessons you can customize the time of the lessons to work with your schedule.
BEHAVIOUR CONSULTATIONS

Contact Tracy at Ruffined K9 for an initial 15 minute phone consult to discuss any concerning issues or behaviours your canine may be displaying. This initial service is offered at no cost to ensure that the right training and or behaviour modification opportunity is available to you and your canine. If a behaviour modification and training program is beneficial for you and your dog the next step is to schedule the Behaviour Consultation and Intake. This consists of a combination of behaviour questionnaire’s, as well a follow up interview and behaviour modification training session. If there are multiple concerns or the behaviour issue is of a complex nature, additional sessions may be indicated. Follow up behaviour modification sessions are 1 hour and $150.00 per private training session.
